Sharing links to specific moments in a web page is really simple to do in Google Chrome. Here's how...

For our last tech tip, we explained how to share a specific moment in a YouTube video. We discussed how important it is to keep the recipient of your link in mind and make their experience as optimal as possible. Providing them with links to direct moments, shows that you care and are not wasting their time.

Following on from that, we wanted to continue building on this idea of efficient link sharing. We thought we would turn our attention to sharing specific sections or snippets of text within a web page in Google Chrome.

What’s the scenario? You could be writing an online article or blog and you want to include hyperlinks to quotes or studies that evidence the points you are making. You could be a business owner and you want to share a link to information detailing a specific service with a potential customer.

If the information you are referencing or sharing is on a web page which is “light” in terms of content, sharing the web page’s URL may suffice. However, if it is dense:

In the case of writing an article:

You could be sharing a link to a study that is hundreds of pages long! Okay, readers could just take your word for it that the evidence is there. However, if they want the proof, it is a big ask to get them to read the entire thing. Us humans, we don’t actually like to read web pages. They could search for keywords within the document, but they could make multiple appearances in the text.

In the case of the business owner:

You could be sharing a link to a service page that has many sections and lots of text; the pertinent information is but a small part of it. Forcing prospective customers to engage in the business world’s equivalent of “Where’s Wally?” isn’t going to make the greatest impression!

Sharing a link to a specific section or portion of text on a web page is beneficial to both you and the recipient. Your reader can automatically verify the validity of your claims. It builds credibility for your business. Your prospective client gets immediate answers to their questions. You prove yourself to be efficient, helpful and respectful of their time, setting your business up in a favourable light.

Sharing links to specific moments in a web page really is a win-win and it is really simple to do in Google Chrome. Let’s learn how…
