In this fast-paced digital world, you want to give your readers, customers or prospective employers the optimal experience. One of the ways to do that is to not waste their time. Time is very much of the essence, so providing an efficient service is imperative!

Also true of these times is the fact that content is king! When writing a blog or an article, you can cite a documentary or interview clip, as well as the more traditional written resources. If you are a content creator or performer applying for a role in a new project, you can share specific scenes from your showreel that are pertinent to the job you are applying for.

The thing is, some videos are really long! If you share the URL link, your readers or the recipient of your application, would have to trawl through minutes, maybe even hours of footage to find the relevant moment.

You could specify a timestamp in your message or article, but that still involves them having to manually drag the scrubber to the right time. Even that could be deemed as too much effort. Plus, you have already done the hard work to identify it. So why not share the fruits of your labour and hand it to your readers on a silver platter?

It is possible to share a precise moment within a YouTube video and it is really simple to do. Here’s how:

How to share a precise moment in a YouTube Video

  1. Open YouTube.
  2. Go to the video that you want to share.
  3. Press pause.
  4. Drag the scrubber (the red dot in the progress bar) to the exact moment in the video that you would like to share.
  5. Click the Share button below the video.
  6. Select the “Start at” box at the bottom of the pop up window. The URL link above should have a slightly different ending indicating the timestamp.
  7. Click the “Copy” button above next to the now timestamped URL link.
  8. Share the link.

Or an even quicker method:

  1. Open YouTube.
  2. Go to the video that you want to share.
  3. Press pause.
  4. Drag the scrubber (the red dot in the progress bar) to the exact moment in the video that you would like to share.
  5. Right click on the video.
  6. Click “Copy video URL at current time.”
  7. Share the link.

When the receiver or a visitor to your website clicks on the link, the YouTube video will open and start playing from the specified time.
